Your task for this session is to discuss "Staged Photography," as explained in the text. Read the “Staged Photography” section on pages 295-298 of the text. Focus your study on the images by Gillian Wearing (Figure 11-21), Bill Gekas (Figure 11-22), and Gregory Crewdson (Figure 11-23).

Choose one of the three photographs listed above, then discuss the use of staging and 'manipulation', and its use to reveal the content (not just the subject) of the piece.

Be sure to number (1, 2, 3, 4) and answer all of the four discussion questions below:

 1. Name the photograph, photographer, and date of your selection. What is the subject matter?

2.  Discuss how the use of staging/manipulation is used to reveal the content.  How are you informed about the meaning of the photograph?

3. After study and close observation, what do you suppose has been digitally changed or enhanced in the photograph you selected?

4. Would the photograph have been possible without the use of digital manipulation or staging? Why or why not?
