For this week's discussion posting, I'm asking that you listen to the SANS podcast by well-renowned, self-taught reverse engineer Lenny Zeltser entitled "Top 10 Writing Mistakes in Cybersecurity and How You Can Avoid Them". https://www.sans.org/webcasts/top-10-writing-mistakes-cybersecurity-avoid-110220. Since it is an archived podcast, this will require you create an account on the SANS web page (slides available on the SANS site, webcast available on YouTube here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YDnmUrcfvMo).
For this assignment, I'd like you to post two things you learned from the podcast and then your thoughts on the applicability of it what Lenny discussed. If there was anything that stood out to you, please post it here. One additional question -- do you think hearing this webcast/reviewing his slides would have helped you in crafting/approaching your HW2 submissions?

The First thing I learned from the podcast was Overstuffing the Paragraph which I tend to do sometimes when I am writing. As Cybersecurity professionals, we should be able to address problems in a simple and easy manner for others within and outside of the cyber field. Often times overthinking on a certain topic can lead to the writer noting down more than what is required to be documented which can lead to confusing and making things more complex for the readers. We can avoid this problem by splitting the paragraphs into easy-to-process chunks according to Lenny Zeltser. This includes the reasonable topic sentences that give key ideas of what is in the paragraph.
Second thing that I learned from the podcast was that most of us use more words than necessary which if I think about it now is also something I tend to do, and which leads to making ideas/thoughts more complex when a person reads it. This mistake can be related to Overstuffing the paragraph one but is also unique on its own. Writing too many words in your sentences can often distract the reader since they do not have time and patience which can lead to their attention being away. An individual should revise the writing and reduce it down by 20% at least according to Zeltser. another tip was to get straight to the point and when in doubt cut things out instead of putting everything in one place.
I think after listening to this podcast, I would have changed what I wrote in assignment 2. I would have definitely shortened my research notes and made it interesting by keeping things short, simple, and straight to the point.
