The role of family and friends in strengthening the adolescent’s definition of his own self is immensely important. It paves the way for an understanding that has not yet been reached upon and which suggests the basis of a well-knit bond that exists within the family. Since the adolescent has not seen the world as yet, it is only natural to know that his family members and friends play a huge role at telling him how he must make sure that his life is controlled and directed in a positive manner. The role of the family and friends is all the more significant because they give this adolescent enough confidence with which he can go out there and face the world. This would enable him to see things through and understand how life is in general. Also it will facilitate in his comprehension of certain aspects which surround the basis of his life like mingling with friends, development of habits, speaking in front of the elderly, table manners and so on. The adolescent learns so much when he is surrounded by family members and good friends, and there is no doubt that one shall reap rich rewards if this process continues in the times to follow (Stevenson, 1998).
