5). The injuries usually result from electrocution, cutting, fracturing of body parts, crushing, and serious burns among others. Unfortunately, these accidents usually occur because the workers involved in the maintenance of machines or equipment fails to take the right precautionary measures to control the machines or equipment by ensuring proper lockout/tagout. From the analysis, it becomes clear that lack of training is largely to blame for such avoidable and costly accidents. In order to prevent such accidental release of hazardous energy during maintenance of machines or equipment, it is highly appropriate that the workers involved in the maintenance or servicing of machines, such as craftsmen, laborers, electricians and machine operators are provided with proper training on how to ensure proper lockout/tagout of machines as required under OSHA 29 CFR 1910.147(a) (3) (i) standard (U.S. Department of Labor par. 14).
