The play Fences is August Wilson’s second major play, which earned for him a Pulitzer prize for drama. As a result of the ability of Fences to speak across cultural boundaries of race, age, and gender, it attracted the attention of scholarly inquiries. The story follows a 53-year-old one-time baseball player, now garbage collector, Troy Maxon – a bitter man crushed by a lifetime of disappointments.
