Historical records have identified that Hip-Hop was originated in the late 1960s and early 1970s in New York as an effective medium to control the urban culture which distressed like a horrible plague. Hip-Hop was the solution, the production of self-determination, self-realization, creativity and pride (Price, 2006 p. xi). The Hip-Hop culture has subjected to various transitions overtime. From a local non-profit- bearing culture, now it has emerged as an international, multibillion-dollar industry with many branches. David Gest, (n. d.) in his article, Preserving the Birthplace of Hip Hop writes, “Scholars, musicians, and the media widely recognize Sedgwick Towers, the building located at 1520 Sedgwick Avenue in the Bronx, as the birthplace of “hip hop…” since then it has attracted the attention of a larger public. Analyzing the events led to the origin of hip hop culture, one can identify that the beginning of the 16th century was a period of unrest marked with the suffering to the Hispanic tribes tried to find their way out to poverty, gang-infested crimes, and drugs.
