The essay "Definition of Post-Modernism" defines and describes postmodernism. It could be asserted that post-modernism encouraged the exploration of answers to various queries, issues, and concerns, beyond what has been universally accepted as truth. Description of the term ‘post-modernism’ was initiated through exploring the meaning of ‘modernism’. As emphasized, modernism “refers to a certain period of western cultural, artistic and sociological history. This period covers the later nineteenth and early twentieth centuries”. The characteristics noted which aptly identifies modernism include: alteration in traditional thinking and exploration of diverse points of views. Likewise, modernism was noted to be “a reaction to the perceived world view of the time and the condition of modern civilization. However, many thinkers and philosophers felt that modernism itself had certain restrictions and that modernistic thought still relied on basic foundational concepts that were tied to the past”. Therefore, the concept of post-modernism evolved from the descriptions noted of modernism and expanded to emphasize non-conformity to anything that is fixed or restricted. There were several characteristics which were noted to assist in describing post-modernism, to wit: rejection of boundaries. and noted concentration on the following: discontinuity, fragmentation, ambiguity. As aptly define, therefore, post-modernism was noted explicitly as “an adventure and an expression of life experience.
