Kant was well know in his age (1784-1804) for his speech in Political Writing To think for yourself is the highest key for the truth within yourself. This rule is the Rule of the Age of Enlightenment. In his age the French Revolution existed on the Ideas of Enlightenment in the eyes of Voltaire and Rousseau. We all know that the French walked the streets of Paris and that the revolution was from the people.Be aware of Kant, his ideas where not the same that lead to freedom. His idea is based on self criticism. He bounded human knowledge. Berlin followed this idea: "A kind of shorthand for any opposition to the dominance of Enlightened though" (Pimlico 2000). It arose against the Enlightenment ideas in Germany based on Rationalism, Empiricism and Universalism thinking. Short he mend common sense to be used as well as Kant. Common sense since knowledge is not the only basic to enlightenment.Cassirer states in his book: The Philosophy of the Enlightenment the opposite Ideas between the different Philosophers of those time. His work is significant in reviewing the ideas and the changes made in using the Enlightenment theories. How does the Enlightenment Age fit in our society today? How do we use the works from then into our days. If we take Kant and his idea of common sense, as also used by Voltaire then we see that we use it more then often. The consumer uses his mind in buying in freedom and speaks out if something is wrong. In being the human with full rights we choose our own life, it is not

choice. Then consider we inherited a greater good by people who challenged

people to stand up for their rights. Remember they where already there, they

existed and where taken over by Religion and Royalty. They thought that they

had the right to do the thinking for the people! Nowadays WE do the thinking

for ourselves, we watch and read what we want, we believe such as we choose,

we choose in our Democracy how we want to be ruled. This freedom rules our

lives in the modern western world.

Kant, who teached us how to use our mind and knowledge of course had

opposite ideas about what happened in France and Germany during the

revolutions. Main critic he had was the thee powerful leader still used their

knowledge to rule the freed people. They still thought that this was enough to

tell others how to think. Kant teached us to think for ourselves, in teaching us

the boundary in thinking.

Gay (1973) describes it as "the permanent value of the Enlightenment's human

Libertarian visionthe permanent validity of its critical method". And then later

(1973) "to account not merely of these ideas with their world but also to judge the

adequacy or inadequacy of their perceptions".

Porter continues on this. Porter (2000) "Although one might query some of this

essay, it is lively, stimulating guide to the topic, which gives the professional

historian of science or technology pause for reflection, and which is admirably suited

to the needs of students trying to understand just what the Scientific Revolution

was all about." Porter explains like Gay does the Age of Enlightenment, the ideas

and the changes it brought in our lives.
