Three parts of persuasion are needed to make the evaluation complete: who, what, and whom.

“who” is the communicator and thus gives the description or characteristics of a persuader. Seven characteristics must be evident in any powerful persuader in order to influence people into believing their delivered content. The characteristics are belief, knowledge, persistence, enthusiasm, energy, knowledge, and consistency (Petty & Cacioppo, 2012). People respond nicely to communicators who possess the stated characteristics because they have a powerful reasoning and thus can argue their points out in a logical manner. Having a firm belief helps persuaders because it boosts their confidence. Therefore, they will be prove their knowledge capacity by arguing out using facts and giving necessary evidence. However, they have to be empathic to their target groups and be persistent even if they are rejected for the first time. People are hostile to strangers and need proof to feel comfortable. Through their arguments, they draw attention of their target group, and the result is always opinion change. If a communicator possesses characteristics opposite from the earlier mentioned ones, their target groups in most cases respond negatively. This is because there is no attraction that can make them pay attention. In fact, people may feel scared, threatened, or in the wrong place. The suggestions are as a result of natural instincts instilled in people. Attraction assures people of positive interaction and thus makes them feel comfortable.

“What” refers to the type of message a communicator passes across. The standard attributes inherent in persuasive messages include the trustworthiness in a letter, expertise with which the message is delivered, the likeability of the communicator, and in some cases race and marital status of the communicator.
