Mrs. Mallard is a young woman who has a heart problem. After the bad news about Mr. Mallard death arrived, both Josephine her sister and Richard her husband’s friend break the news to her in a gently manner because she was in a bad condition. Hearing the message, Mallard’s wife ironically reacts to the message with excitement and she felt relieved from a marriage that was depressing. Suddenly, she is filled with joy because she felt she can now live by herself and not with anyone. The characters names points out a clear explanation of this in the beginning of the story. The wife of Mr. Mallard is referred to as she or Mrs. Mallard only but after the husband’s return home, the name is changed to “wife.” The name of the wife is not unveiled until when the sudden death of her husband is told, when she declared herself being free. In most marriages, it is considered normal for the wife’s assumption on her husband’s name and her becoming the husband’s property. They did not notice that they had lost who they were even during the times y the husbands (Veroff, 65).

Most women are full of sadness in their marriage. According to the Chopin, women’s sadness in marriages
