The purpose of this assessment is to evaluate the effectiveness of proofs present in an argumentative writing.
Assessment Description:
The Declaration of Independence, a classic argument, was written by Thomas Jefferson in 1776 to explain why the American colonies wanted to separate from Great Britain. It established America as independent states, and, as a result, it is a revolutionary document with a revolutionary purpose.
Read The Declaration of Independence, to understand the context and background of this document, use a secondary source to familiarize yourself
with the background and context of this document. Based on your understanding of the document, answer the following questions:
Do you think the document can be organized into parts? How would you categorize or label these parts?
What is the purpose of each part of the document?
Summarize the ideas in each part of the argument. Test the argument by questioning the warrants and the support. Do you agree with them? If you accept them, you accept the conclusion.
Identify some of the proofs in the document, and comment on their soundness and effectiveness.
Describe the predominant style in the argument, and give examples that support your answer.
