I'm writing a rhetorical analysis of an interview from January 15th 2016 between Obama and YouTube personality Ingrid Nilsen. When I am analysis how Obama acted or his response do I address him as former president Obama? Or President Obama?
He is no longer the president obviously but at the time of the interview he was still president. So how should I refer to him?
Should I say: 'Nilsen poses a question to former president Obama 35 minutes into the video.'
or 'Nilsen poses a question to President Obama 35 minutes into the video.'
