The environment therefore plays a big role in determining whether or not one is at-risk. This problem of at-risk youths is a national problem. every state has parents worrying about their youthful children. They are afraid because of the behaviour that their children acquire at these particular ages. It is for this reason that socialist look at various solutions to the problem. They look for various ways to make the teens busy to prevent them from getting involved in risky behaviors.

Almost 50% of all teenagers in the US are considered to be highly at-risk. The other 50% are also considered to be at-risk but the degree of risk is limited. This means that almost everyone is at risk whenever they are in their youthful stages meaning that they have to take care. The most likely people to be at-risk of getting into drugs and other harmful behavior are those that are brought up and raised by parents who practice the same behavior. For example, a female child raised by a commercial sex worker is at a higher risk of becoming a sex worker in the future (Donelan, 2008). Such teens need to get involved in various interesting activities that will keep their minds off dangerous activities. Art has been known to help these teens live a more positive and productive life. With the introduction of art into their lives, the teens can become productive rather than destructive. A good example of how art can be used to turn the lives of at-risk teens is the lives of rappers such as Tupac. Being raised in an environment full of drugs, rap music was able to prevent him from doing all the negative things he used to do to the society and as a result, helped him change his life for the better.

The environments in which these youths are raised also contribute a lot to the risk factor.
