In this unit, you have studied the work of Modernists and Imagists. Modernism is a broad category, and Imagism is a particular style of writing that falls under the Modernist genre.

You know that Imagists use sensory language to bring poetry to life. Like all Modernist writings, Imagist works are subject to interpretation. They explore personal thoughts and feelings, as well as ways in which individuals react to their surroundings. Such poems explore the nature of reality, often expressing uncertainty about the world and examining human psychology.

For this part of Project 1, you will writing an essay in which you explain the how the ideas of Modernism and Imagism are shown in one of the following poems.

1. First, you will need to review and explain what Modernism and Imagism are.
2. Then, you will provide your own interpretation of a poem and analyze how sensory images and details in the poem led you to this interpretation.
