Security Breaches

During this pandemicthere are many uncertaintiesin the world. I wasn't able to find a recent security breach in my area. However, I found an article in the Washington Post that outlines serious data privacy concerns as a direct result of the Coronavirus situation.

There have been many people creating apps with the goal in mind to track contact with individuals. While the apps are being created with good intentions, the security is not being addressed. There is a large concern that people are very vulnerable using these apps as there are no guidelines in place to require security processes to be put in place. According to the article, this obviously, makes these appsvery appealing to hackers. The appsare designed to keep track of the people you are in contact with. If you ever test positive, you enter the data in your app and it should ping people you have been in contact with. There is also a concern that if people cannot truly trust their data in these apps, then less people will use them. This means the purpose the app was created is very difficult to manage as you do not have the users needed to effectively track the virus.

"One of the apps even have a privacy policy that warns users it will collect data about your mobile device, computer system, including MAC address, IP address and mobile device ID" I would not recommend that anyone uses an applike this. If there is a need to track who you have been in close contact with, I would suggest that we all take that responsibility on ourself. We could end up paying for being so careless about our privacy while attempting to protect our health and others.
