QUESTION

# Is H2O2 -- H2O+O2 a balanced equation?

The equation H_2O_2 --> H_2O + O_2 is not a balanced equation. There are two hydrogen atoms on both sides of the equation but there are two oxygen atoms on the reactant side of the equation but there are three on the product side of the reaction.

A balanced reaction would be

2 H_2O_2 --> 2 H_2O + O_2 which would have four hydrogen and oxygen atoms (or moles) on both sides of the equation.

Here is a video which provides further discussion of this reaction and how to balance its equation.
