Jordan Townsend TA: Hodges Section: 6-6:50pm Anthropology 5 Introduction to Physical Anthropology Problem Set # 2: Mendelian Genetics 1. To be subject to evolution by natural selection a trait must be transmitted reliably from parent to offspring. A. In Darwin"s day, people believed in a "fluid" or "blending" model of heredity. Why would such a system not support evolution by natural selection? For those people that believed in the fluid or blending method of heredity must be aware that it does not support evolution by natural selection because it is simply not natural. When blending occurs, it strays away from what the offspring is supposed to become if they had gone through natural selection instead of something that is virtually another form of artificial selection. B. How does the behavior of Mendelian genes differ from this blending model?
