QUESTION

M5D2 HIS

The North American colonists may have been living an ocean away, but they were subjects of France, England, or Spain. Any disagreements involving the French, English, Dutch and Spanish in Europe also had an impact on their colonial counter parts. The Native Americans were frequently drawn in as well, taking sides when they felt it was to their advantage.

Review the military engagements experienced by the English colonists up to this point. Which one do you feel was the most important in shaping English colonization and why?

Students often ask why the Native Americans didn’t just band together to drive out the colonists. With two other students discuss why you think this didn’t happen and the ways in which the Native Americans used the clashes between the Europeans to their advantage.
