Discussion of Safety Policy

• Describe your safety policy, and the ways in which it was scaled up or down to meet the needs of your company

Discussion on the costs and benefits of having a safety program

• Identify the amount of time that it will take to staff the safety program, and whether this is appropriate for the size of the company
• Defend the costs involved with having a safety program

Project Instruction

Imagine that you are developing a business plan for a new aviation company and have been asked to propose a safety program and budget appropriate to the size and scope of your company. 

Step 1) Determine an aspect of the aviation industry that your group would like to form a company to address.

Step 2) Decide on a name for your new company, a location for your home base, and the number of employees you will start off with. 

Step 3) Decide on how to build a safety program that is appropriately sized for your operation. Will you have a full time or part time safety officer? Will the safety officer report directly to the CEO, or be embedded elsewhere in the organization? What will your chain of command look like?

Step 4) Determine safety needs and budget for the first year of operations.

Step 5) Prepare a proposed safety program, including a safety policy and budget to the CEO. 

Step 6) Revise the below "Generic Safety Policy" to fit the size and scope of your company.
