Universal pre-k exists in Oklahoma, Florida, and, New York. The United States ranks 26th in the world for the 4-year-olds enrolled in earlyeducation programs, which is far behind other countries when it comes topreschool participation. In some other countries, almost all four-year-olds arein rolled in some preschool program. Nearly all states have some funding forpreschool but for low income families. In 2012-2013 28 percent of the four-year-olds were enrolled in alow-income preschool program.  Somesmall-scale studies show that children that attend preschool are less likely todrop out of high school, get arrested, repeat grades, and require specialeducation services, making them think that government-sponsored preschool iswell worth the investment. Preschool needs to be available to all children notjust low income families or the disadvantages kids.

Oklahoma is the only state to offer publicly fundedpreschool to 90 percent of child four years of age. The survey done in 1972,shows that the group of children enrolled in the preschool program had a muchhigher score on the mental tests than the group of children that attended thechild care program.

Mandatory preschool would require all kids to attend agovernment based preschool, or could face penalties. The government wouldprovide tax dollars creating a universal preschool. The preschool would be foreveryone regardless of the family’s income and would be available for childrenages 2-5. Universal preschools would be taught by teachers with credential andhave low teacher-child ratios. The people for mandatory preschool see thebenefits, like having all children be kindergarten ready. Also, see it as anadvantage for the parents who both work outside the home. People againstmandatory preschool think parents should have the choice of teaching theirchildren on their own before kindergarten.

The evidence shows that children gain a lot frompreschool.  "At preschool, theybecome exposed to numbers, letters, and shapes. And, more important, they learnhow to socialize -- get along with other children, share, contribute to circletime," says Parents advisor Kathleen McCartney. Your child will find outhow to strengthening socialization skills, compromise, be respectful of others, and problem-solve. Preschool is a place where kids can play with their peersand build confidence and self-worth. The teacher will play games to get thekids to learn like rhyming games or matching games instead of just trying tosit them down and repeat them to the children; they make it fun for thechildren to learn.

Preschool forms a foundation that will help children succeedin elementary school. Preschool is usually kids first structured setting it isan opportunity for growth.  Ahigh-quality early childhood education program will offer children both, kindergarten ready and play time. Teacher builds a relationship with thestudent making them trust an adult outside the family. Teachers can also help yourchild to manage frustrations or anger while letting children work problems outon their own. Children get to make a lot of choice on their own, like whichactivity to do. Children get to help out in the classroom which gains themself-worth and teaches them to take care of themselves.

Replys on thesis statement

This is a great topic! I can agree with this and bet you have a lot of ideas to put in youressay about it.  As a mom of 3 youngchildren who have been in preschool and on to kindergarten I have seen what abenefit it is for them to be prepared. Its a major change for them to go frombeing at home to going to a classroom environment all day with so manyexpectations. It can be overwhelming for them and they can fall behind or haveto be held back and repeat kindergarten. I have seen that happen firsthand andit can be hard.  Good luck!

I think this is a great topic. I would look up the AbbottPreschool Program. New Jersey made preschool legal starting at age 3. It mightbe a good place to start.

Kelsey, this thesisstatement should work well for you as you develop your essay; it's also has atypo and a run on sentence so be sure to review the video in announcements, which will show you how to fix run ons. (from the teacher)
