Market research actually deals specifically with the gathering of information about a market's size and trends. On the other hand, Marketing research covers a wider range of activities. While it may involve market research, marketing research is a more general systematic process that can be applied to a variety of marketing problems. Market research uncovers traits of a market (size, competition, customer demographics etc)...while marketing research deals with the types of activities and tools that can be used to reach the market.
