In order to achieve the most success you can from your career, you need to develop an Action Plan! To begin, there are areas to consider and questions to answer that can help you choose the right career goal for yourself. 

Areas to consider when choosing a career goal:

§  Education requirements

§  Experience Requirements

§  Interests

§  Hiring demand

§  Salary range

As you can tell, there are a lot of factors to take into account when choosing your career goal. You are now ready to begin the process of setting your Career Goal. Each of you have selected an area of Information Technology where you want to specialize. In Table 1.1 of your textbook is a list of typical IT jobs. Go to either of the course materials provided, find your desired position, and answer the following questions:

Click on the Careers tab on the student website:

  • Complete Tool 1 (Career Exploration) by setting a minimum of one Career Goal.
  • Complete Tool 2 (Skill Development) and identify three skills that you need to develop to achieve your Career Goal.

Develop an Action Plan with a minimum of six tasks that you will complete to improve your skills. Actions steps must be reasonable, measurable and have target dates for completion. 

Complete the Career Plan Template with answers to the following questions:

  • State the Career Goal you selected and give three reasons why?
  • What is the salary range for your chosen Career Goal position?
  • State three skills you need to develop in order to get a job in your chosen career field. Why did you choose these skills?
  • List six tasks that you plan to complete, including target dates for completion.
