Course Overview
All business students need to understand the financial statements of a publicly traded company. Usually, a company produces three types of reports:
Balance sheet: A balance sheet shows the assets, liabilities, and equity of the company.
Income statement: An income statement shows the revenue and expenses of the company.
Statement of cash flows: A statement of cash flows shows where the company generates cash and how the cash is used.
All companies that sell their stock to the public on one of the stock exchanges must publish these statements and get them attested or audited by an independent accounting firm.
This module introduces ethics in finance and accounting. You will identify key legal and ethical issues in both areas and begin to apply legal and ethical principles to a business scenario. You will also explore the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 and apply the reform principles of this legislation to an existing business example.
