The myth covered in the book of Genesis delves deep in to the state of the world which was “a formless void and darkness covered the face of the deep…” (Genesis, 1:2). The universe was completely shapeless and as God’s spirit hovered over the waters, he said, “Let there be light” and the world came into being. He separated the light from the darkness and called it ‘Night’ and “Day”.
The creation of the world according to Christian scriptures took 6 days and each day signified the creation of one aspects of the world. On the first day, God separated the dome from the waters “God called the Dome Sky” (Genesis, 1:8). The second day was the birth of land and seas and “plants yielding seed, and fruit trees of every kind on earth to bear fruit with the seed in it.”(Genesis 1:11) The process of creation continued and on the third day the stars, moon and the sun were fashioned. The fourth day saw the creation of sea monsters, all living and winged creatures came into being.
The fifth day is described in the following verse as it saw the creation of “… the wild animals of the earth of every kind, and the cattle of every kind, and everything that creeps along the ground of every kind.” (Genesis 1:25). Finally, it was the sixth day when God actually came up with the idea of creating man, this aspect of the myth was outlined in the following verse and this was how the humankind came into existence. The Bible says, “Let us make humankind in our image, according to our likeness. and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the sky, and over all the wild animals of the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth” (Genesis 1:26).
