Globalization that got optimized from 1990s facilitated the entry of many Multinational Companies into the GCC states, and along with the local companies, they have been recruiting high number of migrant workers particularly from India, so much so these India migrant workers make up a sizable part of the local population. India is the principal country of origin for the 17 million migrants in GCC countries, with around 26 percent of all households in the Indian state of Kerala having at least one temporary international migrant, and 89 percent of these were in GCC countries.
