For our second session, I'm asking you to read a few pages from book 7 of Plato's Republic, which recount his famous allegory of the cave.

In addition to reading this passage, I'd like you to complete a short close-reading assignment at home. This assignment involves practicing a special method of close and active reading called CRIT.

1. Please view this short video, which outlines the CRIT method. We will be using and discussing this type of reading frequently in class. The video also provides some good ideas about annotating texts, which you will be required to do for this assignment.
