Regional Hospital has adopted the “at-will” policy in order to provide the freedom of employment to its employee’s and the hospital. With this policy in effect, an employee is not under any contracts and can leave to find a better opportunity if they need to. There are no consequences for the employee leaving and doing what is best for them. For the hospital this means that they can terminate an employee and they do not have to give a reason. According to Guerin “Even if you are an at-will employee, you still cannot be fired for reasons that are illegal under state and federal law.” Mr. Fused was terminated because he recently showed that he was unable to follow instructions. Before this issue can taint any other workers, the hospital decided termination was best. The “at-will” policy allows for both employees and employers to do what is best for them or their company.
