Why do we need Virtual Memory? Modern mobile operating systems do not use it so why do we need it at all?

The book defines virtual memory as a technique that allows programs to be executed even though they are not stored entirely in memory. With keeping that definition in mind, one of the issues with memory allocation schemes presented in chapter two was that the entire program had to be stored in memory before executing. Virtual memory allows us to correct that issue. 

Mobile devices do not have a secondary storage in order to facilitate swapping with virtual memory. These devices also need to have real time performance that isn't necessary with the standard desktop operating system.
