Conditional Formatting and IF Functions

Conditional formatting and if formulas are similar in that they are both popular functions

used to make an analysis or comparison of large data. Secondly, they have results.

Conditional formatting formula is true or false whiles those in either if formats are yes or no.

the third similarity is that they both use formulas in calculations.

Suppose I have the sales representations for different employees. In my reviews, I want to see

who is meeting their goals and who isn’t, in terms of sales. Although it would be better just

look at the numbers, sometimes the list is long and it makes work easier having them

highlighted. Conditional formatting makes this possible by using things as color-coding in

accordance with the values of the cells. By highlighting numbers or data, go to conditional

formatting on the home tab and choose the greater than the rule. This highlights the

employees who exceeded the input number or less than for those who have not met their

goals.

This works to my advantage in that I am better placed in knowing what tools or what

marketing strategies worked and which ones did not. I am also able to gauge the employee's

input over a period in case they improve or not. This can give my team and I a competitive

advantage over our competitors. Having to manually define the conditions in conditional

formatting makes it a great way to review information and data on the worksheet under

different circumstances. Conditional functioning is automatic in that if a change is made to

one cell, then the table is automatically updated.
