Discuss the pros and cons of both outsourcing and offshoring. How might a leader introduce this to the organization without creating speculation and panic in its employees? What steps would you take to implement a digital transformation? Why?

PEER 1

Hello Professor and class, It has been the practice of companies to contract with individuals or other companies to make use of them to provide services that are difficult to be provided by internal employees, for lack of requirements, and this is what is called outsourcing. Our employer tends to outsource in IS/IT projects and technical support, where the company prefers to utilize best practices in implementing the required applications that are difficult to be provided in-house mostly due to a lack of proper staffing.

With the most prominent advantage is that it often saves money, time, and resources. Outsourcing allows companies to focus on other critical business issues while the intractable issues or that require the skills and expertise of non-existent, could be provided by outside experts, and this leads to substantial growth in the core business of the company.

One of the other disadvantages, though possessing sound knowledge and bring best practices of other experiences, there are business areas that need particular expertise consistent with the company's internal operation, but the third-party does not possess the know-how, which can be mitigated by requiring involving stakeholders to follow-up and review design documents and agree on revisions in the development stage, so there is no gap between the product and the desired objectives, along with persevering follow-up from project manager.

It is my opinion that successful management is seeking to outsource after appropriate comparisons between options, examining the risks and take advantage of globalization factors, with the training of internal staff to seek first aid in time of need.

PEER 2

Outsourcing and offshoring can be a positive experience as well as a negative experience for a business. Outsourcing can provide a business with the dedicated staff that it needs to keep its business running. This can be advantageous for the business because hiring, training, and managing is handled by the company the service was outsourced to. This allows the business to work on other tasks that may have a greater impact on the company’s goal. The company can also save money. It may be cheaper to allow a third party company to provide a service for the company versus having the company provide the service. This can be the case when considering what time the business operate. Some companies outsource services for the late shifts because they do not have to worry about paying shift differential for the time the work is performed.

One of the biggest cons can be that it takes jobs from employees that have been loyal to the company and sometimes it takes jobs from the US economy. It also can be a bad experience for the customer. I can recall several times I spoke to someone that was not in the United States that I could not understand or they could not understand me.
