Entrepreneurship – Setting up of a new Quantitative Finance Firm

Context:  Consider this project as a mini-business plan for which you can someday implement it with your fellow team members This is a completely open-ended project in the true spirit of the term and students are encouraged to think independently on how best to set up a new business in this industry. This project aims to: 

o Analyze the current state of the quantitative finance industry in both developed and emerging markets, to identify areas of opportunity. 

o Identify and assess the legal/regulatory issues associated with Quant trading/Quant Firms in the region/country of choice. 

o Identify the target market, seek source of venture capital, determine systems to trade, detail the business plan, etc. 

Scope of Research Project ;

o Complete and clear description of market driver. 

o Identifying market demand and opportunities. 

o Perform a stringent competitive analysis to identify nearest competitors and entry hurdles.

 o Delineate how the new firm would set itself apart from the crowd and lure seed investments. 

o Identify the trading models to implement for that market in the context of existing laws and regulatory requirements. 

o Explain how ethics would be embedded in the core values of the company.

 o Detail the proposed structure of the venture (LLP/LLC/Company etc.), expected running costs, etc. o Devise ways of marketing the benefits of quantitative finance investing to Greenfield investors.
