Comparison and contrast of the writers The writers like Thomas Paine covered from week five to eight can all be seen to be political activist in the English America, revolutionist and theorist in politics. Their key aim is to talk on behalf of the individuals subjected to oppression by the British and fight for human rights. Most of these writers were once jailed or convicted for the purpose of fighting for human rights and justice. These writers advocated for recruitment especially for continental army.

They also wrote about slavery especially based on slavery of the African American. They advocated for abolition of slavery and the rights of human. The writers during this period also can be viewed to be against Christianity according to some of their claims like Thomas Paine who is linked to freemason (Wood 166). The writers from the first chapter to chapter four mainly have mainly written issues based on Christianity, captivity since they were taken captive by the Native Americans and wrote about what they experienced while under captivity. The writers as opposed to the later have faith in Christianity. This is attributed to the fact that, during this period there was a lot of witch craft. They thrived during the time of colonialism and hence their suffering. This includes Mary Rowland son and William Bradford (Oak 300). Neoclassical and romantic period literature Literatures written during the period of neo-classical were driven by the political consequences and the chaos that were socially driven due to the civil war that was taking place at this period. Therefore, the literatures during this period were to drive the desire of having balance in social order. Thus, there is a lot of classical rhetoric structures and heroic couplet. For example, Phillis’ works were due to the slavery that she underwent and her feelings towards the whole event (Oak 300). The romantic literatures were mainly driven by the passion of nature through loving and worshiping it and not focused on the urban age. During this period, the literatures written were based on mystical and supernatural love. Thus, the literatures written during this period had spontaneous expressions since the feelings were expressed as per the writer unlike neo-classical period whereby there were rules on the literature (Oak 300). Transition The neo-classical period offered a transition to the romantic literature. This is because, after 1800, industrial revolution was taking place and most of the literatures written during this period were against urbanism. Writers from chapter one to four are an evidence of transition between literary movements and historical periods while, from chapter five to eight demonstrate that they were now into the new system although most were against this period. The period of neo-classical and classical was based revolution taking place, while neo-romantics and romantics it already came into existence. Therefore, the writers mainly talked about revolution and then in the romantic period the writers were rebuking industrialization due to the effects it had on the environment and nature (Elliot 8).
