Reasearch Paper-will post the question after then ill give detail explanation of how it should be done please follow the rules please thamk you !

Question - Research the Cold War:  How and why did it originate? What were its effects of U.S. foreign policy? How have attitudes toward communism changed since it ended?

Rules:

-Papers are to be typed, double-spaced, and a MINIMUM OF 2000 words in length (excluding citations and works cited page).

-A MINIMUM OF 4 SOURCES are to be used:

Your textbook cannot be used as a source.

You cannot use internet sources.

You cannot use encyclopedias as sources.

The York Tech data base in the library is the BEST resource to use to complete your research.

-All Information MUST BE CITED AND SOURCES DOCUMENTED in standard MLA format. Proper documentation must include BOTH in-text citations AND a works-cited page. Information that is directly quoted, paraphrased, or summarized MUST have a citation (which means you will probably have at least 2 or 3 citations per paragraph).

-LATE PAPERS AND THOSE NOT PROPERLY DOCUMENTED WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. A paper is considered late if it is turned in after the class has met on the day it is due. Papers will not be accepted by email.

MLA GUIDELINES:

Step 1:  Get familiar with the assignment. Many students skip this step, and then wonder why they receive a low grade on a paper they worked so hard on – it is often because they did not read the instructions. Carefully read the assignment, prompts, and all other information. Do not hesitate to ask questions.

Step 2:  Choose your topic from the list below.

Step 3:  Research. Find reliable sources. Acceptable and unacceptable sources have been provided above. Even though you CANNOT use encyclopedias as sources, you can use the bibliographies for the encyclopedia articles to help locate reliable, acceptable sources. As stated above, the York Tech data base is the best way to locate your sources.

Step 4:  Form a thesis. A thesis should be definitive and should not be about you. (Do not say things such as… my paper explains, or I wrote about….). At this point, it would be a good idea to check with the writing center to be sure your thesis is strong enough to guide you as your build your paper.

Step 5: Write, and be prepared to re-write. Again, it is a good idea to have the writing center check your rough draft to make sure you are on the right track.

Step 6.  Edit. Think about structure, organization, wording, and length. Does your paper include everything the assignment asked for? Is your paper too short? It is also important to edit for grammar. Be sure the paper is in MLA format

a. Use Times New Roman in 11 font

b. Leave 1 inch margins on the top, bottom, left, and right

c. Indent the first word in a paragraph

d. Use double-spacing

e. There is no need for a title page; at the top of the first page (flush left), type your name, your instructor’s name, the course number, and the date on separate, double-spaced lines

f. The title of your paper should then be centered on the first page

g. Page numbers appear in the top, right-hand corner with a 0.5” margin from the top and with a flush right margin. Do not use the abbreviation p. before the page number

h. Use parenthetical citations to acknowledge direct quotations, indirect quotations, and/or any ideas you have borrowed from another person

i. Use a works cited page for reference to parenthetical citations

Citation example:

Works Cited Page

Begin your Works Cited page on a separate page at the end of your research paper.

Label the page Works Cited (do not italicize the words Works Cited or put them in quotation marks) and center the words Works Cited at the top of the page.

Double space all citations, but do not skip spaces between entries.

Indent the second and subsequent lines of citations by 0.5 inches to create a hanging indent.

List page numbers of sources efficiently, when needed. If you refer to a journal article that appeared on pages 225 through 250, list the page numbers on your Works Cited page as 225-50. Note that MLA style uses a hyphen in a span of pages.
