When we talk about Educational Leadership, it is best to first understand what Educational Leadership is. Educational leadership is best explained by “identifying future leaders who can think thoroughly and quickly about complex issues, collaborate with diverse groups, show good judgment, stay on the cutting edge of school improvement, and lead needed school reforms” (Cordeiro & Cunningham, 3). I honestly, do not believe that it could have been explained in a better way. I would say with me currently working in the educational setting some of the most critical characteristics of an educational leader is effective communication, leading by example and being self aware of the needs of everyone around them.

I chose these three because when it comes to working in a leadership role there will face to face talks and or even emails sent. The Leader will be expected to to conduct employee evaluations and such. Effective communication in a leadership role is a must! I also discussed leading by example because a leader needs to be trustworthy, fair as well as a good role model for others. An example is, if a leader wants me to abbey the rules that they enforce, I need to see that the leader is also following those same rules. The next characteristic I pointed out was that a leader needs to be self aware of the needs of everyone around them. I feel it’s important to know the team that the leader has, that leader needs to know the ones that may be strong and weak in certain areas. I also think that as a leader they need to believe in the ones they lead.

A leader needs to acquire and practice effectively all of the characteristics that I have listed in this discussion.
