I believe the evolution of online learning is the newest and most popular way to get an education in today’s world. Online learning has innovated the educational realm and enable many people to get a certificate or degree. Online distance learning meets the needs of an ever-growing population of students who cannot or prefer not to participate in traditional classroom settings. These learners include those unable to attend traditional classes, who cannot find a particular class at their chosen institution, who live in remote locations, who work full-time and can only study at or after work, and those who simply prefer to learn independently (Stern, 2005).

Compare and Contrast 

When comparing traditional classroom learning and online learning, a student has a syllabus, has regular test and quizzes to be done, also has assignments to be turned in. Also in comparison is that students are able to check grades online and still able to communicate with an instructor when needed. Instructors are able to communicate with students also through phones and emails and post general information or assignments on a web board. 

In contrast, online degrees make it possible where you don’t have to sit in a 3 hour lecture or travel long distance to get to a class. Also many students are able to attend universities without ever stepping for on campus. Online degree programs and distance learning have gained a firm foothold in universities around the world. What was once considered a niche channel for the delivery of educational content has rapidly become mainstream, creating wider access to education, new markets for content and expanded revenue opportunities for academic institutions (Glenn, 2008). When it comes to class books or buying books online that soon will become obsolete. And more than one-half see the publishing world evolving as a result of all these developments, with textbooks and printed documents eventually being replaced by online materials. (Glenn, 2008)

Another point is that online students have to be very self- motivated, organized and good at time management. Some may say online learning is much easier but it’s not. Students have families, jobs, other responsibilities and spite all these distractions’, they decide to take an online class to better oneself. One would say, a student who is earning an online degree is very resourceful.
