After reading chapter 3 in our textbook, and doing some research on my own, I have come to fully realize all the steps it takes for an educational leader to being fixing problems within their school and getting everyone on board with the changes being made. According to Cordeiro and Cunningham, there are four steps to ensuring lasting change. (Cordeiro & Cunningham, 2014, pg.71). First, you must define what does not need change. second, remember that actions speak louder than words. Third, you must use the right tools for change, and last leaders must be willing to do the dirty work.(Cordeiro & Cunningham, 2014, pg.71-72). Some area of focus that is being innovated is teacher curriculum centered, individual tasks, passive learning, printed media, and grade focus (Cordeiro & Cunningham, 2014, pg. 74). Educational leaders will sometimes face resistance from teachers who feel change is not needed. According to Emo, freedom to implement change when the teachers deem it appropriate appears highly influential for teachers’ career satisfaction (Emo, 2015). This meaning leaders need to find a way for teachers to see the change as influential for their career.
