Scenario A: A researcher wants to see how people respond to three new ad campaign for potato chips. One is funny (A sleeping guy thinks he is eating the best tasting potato chips in the world, though when he wakes up he is chewing on his dog's fur. Horrified, he quickly goes back to sleep and dreams he is chewing on the chips again. His dog then bites him, dreaming that the man is a dog treat). The second advertisement is informative, taking about the nutritional value of the chips. The third advertisement is more neutral, showing the manufacturing of the chips. The researcher has participants first watch the funny advertisement and rate how likely they are to purchase the chips. Participants then watch the informative advertisement (and rate it) and then they watch the neutral advertisement (and rate it). He finds that participants rated themselves as more likely to buy the chips after viewing the funny advertisement.
