Some police officers develop very cynical and biased mindsets about victims involved in certain types of cases. Part of being a good investigator is questioning victims and determining the facts of the case. Historically some victims of sexual assaults have been viewed differently if the circumstances of the crime involve known offenders or when the victim was under the influence of drugs or alcohol during the incident. Frequently cases where the victim was engaged in drug dealing or gang activity are viewed with skepticism by some investigators. Should these officers be more objective in their treatment of victims in these cases or is this just the nature of police work?
