The Independent Activity is a requirement to complete both Core Requirements and Global Learning Requirements. On your own, select to participate in an activity related to women's issues worldwide and write a paper documenting your learning experience. Examples of activities include, but are not limited to, interviewing women's rights activists, visiting an NGO that deals with women and development, attending a lecture series, etc. Some suggestions include:
- Contacting the Office of Volunteer Services at FIU, the Women's Center at FIU, and/or Women's and Gender Studies at FIU to inquire about lectures sponsored by these Programs during the semester that you could attend.
- Tuesday Times Roundtable sponsored by the Global Learning Initiative, on issues dealing with women's issues. For more information go to: GoGlobal.fiu.edu
- Videos of previous Tuesday Times Roundtable, dealing with women's issues, available at GoGlobal.fiu.edu
- Submitting a report evaluating the video "Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide." A copy of this video documentary is available as part of our Course Resources.
- Submitting a report evaluating Human Trafficking in South Florida - as a guide, a PPP presentation is included as a Course Resource
- Programs and lectures offered on women's studies at other institutions Your written report should not exceed two pages. The style is of your choosing.
