TheResearch Paper Assignment: Outline

15 points

Make an outline for your comparative research paper. For this outline, use the template provided below.

  • Take your thesis statement from the previous assignment (perhaps improved based on feedback from your teacher) and make it Roman numeral I.
  • Next, show three main arguments as II, III, and IV; these are the arguments you are making to support the overall argument put forth in your thesis. They should offer positions on comparative themes for which you consider both civilizations.
  • In your research paper, you will need to provide specific, researched evidence about your civilizations to support your arguments. For this outline assignment, show notes and citations for your proof as the "Examples."
  • The final section, V, is for your conclusion, where you will pull together your information and show how your argument provides insight into world history.

Remember, this is a comparative paper, and the following outline suggests how to organize your content. You should not, for instance, deal with Greece/Rome for the first half of the paper and then India/China for the second half. Instead, your outline should look something like the following:

I. Thesis statement

II. First comparative theme in support of thesis

    A. How it was in civilization A

         1. Example

         2. Example

    B. How it was in civilization B

         1. Example

         2. Example

III. Second comparative theme in support of thesis

    A. How it was in civilization A

         1. Example

         2. Example

    B. How it was in civilization B

         1. Example

         2. Example

IV. Third comparative theme in support of thesis

    A. How it was in civilization A

         1. Example

         2. Example

    B. How it was in civilization B

         1. Example

         2. Example

V. Conclusion

Before you begin your first draft, make sure to continue your research so you can include specific, relevant examples supporting each part of your paper. Please review the suggestions and tips for the research process, located at the beginning of this course.
