Unsolicited Proposal Assignment

You will follow the memo format and address your proposal to someone who can approve it. Give that person his/her appropriate title.

The subject of the proposal should be descriptive, in that whoever reads the title will know exactly what it is about. Don't write a sentence; write a title.

Cite your sources in-text and on the References page, using MLA or APA citation (do not mix the two types of citation styles). YES YOU DEFINITELY WILL HAVE RESEARCH

Use the headers on all pages except the first page.

Use section headings to separate your information and guide the reader to the information you are presenting.

Use bullets and numbered lists where appropriate, but be sure to preface each bulleted/numbered list with an intro.

Introduce your graphics and table.

YOU MUST INCLUDE A GANTT chart with each proposal. See your textbook's Proposal section for an example of a GANTT chart.

Choose one of these three topics for your unsolicited proposal.

Do Not write on a topic that is not listed here.

Use REAL sources with REAL information and CITE your sources both in-text and on the Reference page.

Topic 1 -- Entertainment or Community Context

Choose between two different topics in the Entertainment of Community Context and write a formal proposal in which you propose a change in:

Changing the size of seating in sports or entertainment venues such as Reliant or George Brown, or other venues to accommodate various sizes of attendees. What would it take to do that? This one is much more complicated than it looks. Remember, the airlines were considering this as well. There are a lot of components to this; you can't just buy a larger new seat and fit it into where a smaller seat was once fitted.

Or

Using the club house in your subdivision during the week for a volunteer after-school program for elementary school children or a senior-citizen program or other venture that does not interrupt the safety and tranquility of the neighborhood. I do not want a cookie-cutter proposal that only indicates to babysit the children for a couple of hours. Flesh this out. What is needed for this to be successful? Put yourselves in the parents' shoes.

Select a topic that is reasonably complex and yet one about which you can locate information. Place yourself in the role of an outside consultant, who is proposing the change. Choose the unsolicited context. Write to an audience that could actually be the readers.

Don't forget to cite ALL sources in-text as well as on a Reference page.

Topic 2 - Ethical Context

Proposing an entire section of the HR dept that addresses things like negatives of overuse of technology, even in the workplace as well as ethics, sexual harassment, non-professionalism in the workplace or respect for diversity; concerns that may bring about potential negative consequences down the line. You want to request that you initiate policies and procedures that address such issues, or training sessions that address such issues, or a manual that addresses such issues. You must indicate what the deliverables will look like and provide a table of contents. This table of contents must include actual topics that would be discussed in a company HR document of this nature. Also provide a synopsis of the content of each chapter. Follow the guidelines of proposals as shown in your textbook and class examples.

Don't forget to cite ALL sources in-text as well as on a Reference page.

Topic 3 --- Educational Context

Assume you are a professor at a major university and you want to add a new class to the list of courses you feel every student should take. In short, it should not be an elective but mandatory, such as English Composition is mandatory.

You will provide solid reasoning behind this new course request. You will find a book that will correspond to what you want to teach and you will develop some topics and a Lesson Plan for these topics. What do you want students to leave the course knowing? Why is it important? Why is it important to add this class to the list of mandatory courses?

Your Implementation plan should be about how long it will take this class to go from plan to production. What are the needs and timeline?

Go to Google and search for "Developing a new Course." See what you can find from those sources to start you up.
