Using the information you’ve learned in Chapter 3 of your textbook, QI 103 (Testing and Measuring Changes with PDSA Cycles) from the IHI Open School, and 2-3 additional external sources from the literature, create a proposal applying the Plan, Do, Study, Act (PDSA) cycle for an improvement project at work or home.
I encourage you to use a proposal that you could implement at work and preferably in the healthcare setting. However, those not in healthcare should create a proposal for whatever work setting you are currently in. Those not in the workforce should create a proposal to apply at home or in a volunteer organization you are involved in.
In addition, you should include at least one tool described in Chapter 3 (Measurement, Variation, and CQI Tools) in at least one stage of the PDSA cycle. You should briefly describe the tool and apply it in the stage. For example, you could use a flow chart in the Plan stage to describe how you will implement the change.
Your paper should include an introductory paragraph that includes a purpose statement and brief descriptions of your work environment and background of your project (i.e., why it’s needed and what you hope to achieve by it). Your paper should also include a conclusion that summarizes the main points of your paper.
This assignment requires no less than 3 pages and no more than 5, not including cover, reference pages, or figures/tables. APA formatting is required (cover page, 12-point Times New Roman, 1" margins, double space, header and running header, page numbers, etc). However, no abstract is needed. The use of headers for each stage of the PDSA cycle is encouraged. The paper must be submitted as a Word document to the Assignment drop-box.
