Using what you have learned through the Chapter 6 class discussion, text, outline, and audio files, discuss incorporating the four parts of management (planning, organizing, leading, and controlling) into your life as follows:

Part 1 (Mission Statement): Draft a personal mission statement that you will consistently revisit and polish and use as the guiding light for your personal planning throughout your life. Keep in mind that your statement of overall main life purpose should be fairly simple and broad enough to be able to apply to all areas of your life.

Part 2 (Planning): Keeping in mind the personal mission statement that you have drafted, identify an important long-term goal that you have for one of the areas of your life (academic, career, financial, health, relationship, etc.) that would help you achieve that mission and, based on this long-term goal, create and discuss a challenging short-term or medium-term goal (to be accomplished within the next 3 to 36 months) that would help move you forward toward achieving the long-term goal. Be sure to review the chapter materials regarding SMART goals before you create your short-term or medium-term goal.  Additionally, think about and discuss some strategies you may have for achieving this short-term or medium-term goal.

Part 3 (Organizing-Structure & Culture): Before you start going about trying to achieve your short-term goal, what are some things that you could arrange in your life in order to make it easier for you to achieve your goal? Discuss in detail how you could structure your resources (money, time, living space, friends/family, necessary equipment or clothing, etc.) and put them in the right places in order to facilitate the accomplishment of your short-term goal. Also, consider your own personal culture (general way of doing things, value system, habits) and examine if this personal culture is conducive to you achieving your goal or whether changes need to be made to this personal culture in order to make it easier for you to accomplish your goal.

Part 4 (Leading): Now that you have planned and organized your activities, discuss how you will actually go about accomplishing your short-term goal. What will you do to keep yourself constantly motivated and disciplined enough to follow through and complete the planned activities? If other people are helping you, how will you motivate and work with them to help them complete their tasks?

Part 5 (Controlling): Discuss in detail what you will do to assess whether what you are doing is working. What measurements or standards will you use to let you know you are on target? How often will you check on your progress? Daily? Weekly? Monthly? Please discuss in detail what this assessment would look like.
