Was prohibition in 1920's America successful?
Prohibition was one of the few goals that the Progressives failed to achieve. It was unsuccessful.
While the Progressives believed that alcohol led to crime, loss of jobs, etc, they were proven wrong when the ban on alcohol (AKA the fourteenth amendment) led to the starting of an underground alcohol-based business. The act started so much public outrage, hence forcing them to issue the twenty-first amendment, which declared the fourteenth amendment null and void.
So, no. It was not successful.
