QUESTION

What is the lithosphere, hydrosphere and the troposphere and what are the main elements found in each?

The lithosphere is mostly 's surface. The hydrosphere is the total mass of water on, under and over the earth's surface.

The lithosphere is the solid outer part of the earth, which includes the crust, as well as the underlying upper part of the mantle. There are two types of lithosphere: oceanic and continental. The lithosphere is broken up into about a dozen separate tectonic plates. The lithosphere extends from the surface of earth to a depth of about 70–100 km.

Main elements in the lithosphere: Oxygen........... 46.4% Silicon............. 27.8% Aluminum......... 8.1% Iron.................... 5.0% Calcium.............3.7% Sodium............. 2.8% Potassium........ 2.6% Magnesium..... 2.1% Titanium........... 0.4%

The hydrosphere is the earth's water component. It includes the oceans, seas, rivers, streams, lakes and ponds. It includes all liquid and frozen surface waters (ice sheets), under groundwater held in soil and rock, and atmospheric water vapor. Water is also contained in the bodies of living organisms. The hydrosphere covers about 70% of the surface of the Earth, and most of that is the ocean. Only a small portion of the Earth's water is freshwater.

Main elements in the hydrosphere: Oxygen......... 85.9% Hydrogen.... 10.6% Chlorine......... 2.1% Sodium........... 1.1%

The troposphere is the lowest layer of the earth's atmosphere. It starts at the earth's surface and reaches a height of 7-20 km above sea level. Most of the mass (about 75-80%) of the atmosphere is in the troposphere. Almost all weather occurs within this layer. Nearly all of the water vapor and dust particles in the atmosphere are in the troposphere. That is why most clouds are found in this layer, too.

Main elements in the troposphere: Nitrogen...... 75.4% Oxygen....... 22.9% Argon.............. 1.1%
