What is the noble gas configuration for oxygen?
Oxygen has an of ##1s^2 2s^2 2p^4##.
Normally we do not use noble gas configuration for the first 18 . But, in the case of oxygen the noble gas would be Helium, one row up and over to the noble gas column.
Helium is represented by the ##1s^2## portion of the electron configuration. Therefore, the ##1s^2## can be replaced by the noble gas [He]. This makes the noble gas configuration for oxygen [He] 2s^2 2p^4.
