Where is most of the DNA found in the cells of prokaryotic and eukaryotic organisms?
Most of the DNA in eukaryotes is found in the nucleus, while prokaryotes, lacking a nucleus, have their DNA loose in the cytoplasm.
In eukaryotes, the genomic DNA, which makes up most of the cells DNA, is contained in the nucleus. There is additional DNA in the cells mitochondria, and still more in the chloroplast if it is a plant cell, but it is a very small amount.
Prokaryotes do not have a nucleus (or mitochondria or chloroplasts, for that matter), and therefore their DNA is in their cytoplasm, though it is often contained to a region of the cell referred to as the nucleoid.
