QUESTION

Why are lipids nonpolar?

are nonpolar because that consist of hydrocarbon chains which do not make bonds easily with water (a polar molecule).

Hydrocarbon chains are a series of carbons linked together. Carbon atoms naturally bond with four atoms. So if one carbon in a chain is bonded to two other carbons, they satisfy their bonding needs by attaching two hydrogens. Thus the name, "hydrocarbons."
