Why do scientists use the joule as the unit of measurement of energy instead of the calorie?

The Joule is an SI unit that is ##J=N*m=kg*m/s^2##

The calorie is a non-SI unit, so it is not used as widely. There is another problem with the calorie. There is a difference between a calorie and a Calorie.
