I think the relationship between North Korea and South Korea has had its own shares of challenges and benefits throughout the history of these nations. I also think that these challenges also affected the region before and after the incorporation of the Gaeseong Industrial Complex. These two nations have since had contrasting policies in nearly everything and I have think that the same existed between them in the pre-Daeseong Industrial Complex. These countries have suffered diverse economic developments goals and policies. For instance, the North’s development has since been pegged on heavy industrial-oriented policy and Foreign aid. I thaink that these factors contributed to its economic power as compared to South Korea’s system that depended much on market mechanism. The Tax incentives to the producers, financial allocations, and initiating major projects are the major contributors to the South’s economic strategy (Suhk-sam 71).

Notably, North isolated itself from numerous international trades this made it to rely on the South for trade and aid. On the other hand, the South Korea considered the North as the best market for its products due to lack of language barriers. Nonetheless, they had to sign contracts to boost trade and economic developments between them. However, the World War II led to the separation of North from South Korea. From these facts, it is clear that geopolitical strategies and policies of South and North Korea started dwindling far before the construction of Gaeseong Complex. Nonetheless, the construction of the complex did not stop these political and ideological differences but widen their economic policies and I think this has been due to their different allies. However, trade between the two countries has remained good due to the significant role as North Korea’s industrial economy.
